Fame

“The fear of the Lord teaches a man wisdom, and humility comes before honor.” (Prov. 15:33)

There is nothing wrong with being famous. But pursuing it can be a costly and fleeting. On average, every human has 15 seconds of fame and honor in their life. That’s a fraction of a lifespan. The average human who lives to be 75 will have 655,200 hours to use. Calculating 15 seconds of fame brings this conclusion: most of us will live ordinary and relatively obscure lives.

God never calls us to be rich or famous. What God does call us to is humility. There is nothing wrong with an ordinary life out of the spotlight. In fact, ordinary people do extra-ordinary things all the time like raise a family; hold down meaningful work; pay their bills; serve in their church; love others, etc. More often than not, the Bible is full of God using ordinary, humble people to accomplish great things for His Kingdom.

Whenever you feel that its time to “Hollywood” your life, take a second look. The grass is likely not greener on the other side. Perhaps you should redefine what ordinary means and instead see each day as a great opportunity to excel where and be famous where God has placed you.
